LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Victims of the violence in Charlottesville last weekend were remembered Saturday in Lakewood.
Hundreds came together for the third annual Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast organized by the St. Rafka Maronite Catholic Church.
The church has helped hundreds of refugees fleeing persecution in the Middle East.
Organizers say the same root causes are leading to violence here in the United States.
Though mainstream media is relatively silent when it comes to the situation in the Middle East, a very real threat still looms overseas, one that continues to affect millions of lives.
The Christian advocacy group In Defense of Christians (IDC) is calling on the citizens of America to get in touch with their senators and urge them to cosponsor House Resolution 252, which would establish safe zones for refugees fleeing from the civil war in Syria and support the stability of Lebanon, which is hosting more refugees proportionally than any country in the world, according to a statement by IDC. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nearly one Christian is killed every hour around the world for practicing their faith, said the Archbishop of the U.S. capital.
Cardinal Donald Wuerl made those comments on Thursday while delivering the keynote address during the one-day symposium at the National Press Club focused on Christian prosecution.
The event featured the release of a report by the University of Notre Dame’s Under Caesar’s Sword project titled, “In Response to Persecution.” Christian persecution is a worldwide phenomenon, noted the Washington archbishop. Read more…
